How to light a candle correctly – the secrets of a perfect burn

Hogyan gyújtsd meg helyesen a gyertyát – a tökéletes égés titkai

Lighting a candle seems like a simple thing — yet, it comes down to small details to ensure the candle burns truly beautifully, for a long time, and cleanly.
Candlez candles are handcrafted from natural soy wax, so it is especially important that they receive the proper care.
With these few tips, you too can ensure your candle shows its most beautiful glow every single time.

✨ 1. The first light: the foundation for a perfect burn

When you light the candle for the first time, let it burn for at least 2–3 hours so that the entire surface of the wax melts to the edge.
This helps avoid so-called "tunneling," where the wax only melts in the middle and the edges remain.
With an even first burn, the candle will always maintain a nice, flat surface.

🪶 2. Trim the wick

Before every re-lighting, trim the wick to about 4–5 mm in length.
This ensures that the flame burns stably, does not smoke, and does not produce soot.
A shorter wick provides a slower, cleaner burn — the candle lasts longer, and the wax does not overheat.

🌿 3. Don't blow it out – snuff it

If you can, use a lid or a wick dipper instead of blowing out the candle.
This way, no smoke is created, and the hot wax won't splatter.
It is a simple gesture that preserves the purity of the scent and is also much more elegant in true Candlez style.

💛 4. Let it rest

Do not re-light it immediately after extinguishing. The wax layer needs time to re-solidify.
If you let the candle rest, it will burn just as cleanly the next time — as if it were new.

🕯️ 5. The location matters too

Always place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts and direct sunlight.
Drafts cause the flame to flicker and the wax to melt unevenly, which shortens the burn time.

🌸 +1 Candlez tip: crystallization is a sign of naturalness

If you notice a small crystalline pattern appearing on the surface of the candle, don't worry — this is not a defect.
Natural soy wax can react this way to sudden temperature changes, which actually shows that it is made from high-quality, additive-free materials.
This little "frosty" effect is one of the most beautiful signs of true craftsmanship.

Caring for candles is not complicated, it just requires a little attention – but in return, they last much longer, and each time they provide that elegant, quiet luxury that Candlez represents.
Proper candle maintenance means not only beauty but also safety.

If you pay attention to these, every single light becomes a small, peaceful ritual –
and the candle will burn exactly the way I dreamed it would when I made it.
